The reef Karfomeni located in the southern part of the port close to the fuel unloading station for the local power station of DEI caused serious risks to shipping in the area. The dismissal was necessary to facilitate navigation in the region and particularly the previously problematic approach for the ships.
The dismissal of the reef was until 6,0 m. depth.
